Space the beyond

MIR Space Station Deorbited nine years ago today

Caption: Russia’s Mir space station is backdropped over the blue and white planet Earth in this medium range photograph recorded during the final fly-around of the members of the fleet of NASA’s shuttles. Seven crew members, including Andrew S.W. Thomas, were aboard the Discovery when the photo was taken; and two of his former cosmonaut crewmates remained aboard Mir. Thomas ended up spending 141 days in space on this journey, including time aboard the Space Shuttles Endeavour and Discovery, which delivered and retrieved him to and from the Mir.

Nine years ago on this day MIR was de-orbited. In her memory, I made a silly little video game. #space http://bit.ly/bZ9dVZ

Anonymous asked: Do you have any recommended reading materials about space/astronomy?

As I’m French, I don’t have a lot of English book about space, and nearly nothing great aout astronomy.

Generally, I love space history books, describing the old space programs and some events, like the MIR accidents in 1999, the early space history and astronauts/space pioneers biographies.

The very last book I read (in French) was a very good one: La naissance d’Ariane, talking about the genesis of the European launchers program, in a very detailled and interesting way.

One of the great one I read in English was Von Braun: Dreamer of Space, Engineer of War.

If you have other great books about space, please reply !
